Q&A
My child has an allergy. Is messy play safe for him? All messy play is carefully planned for sensitive tummies! This means I do not use soy, dairy or eggs in my play bases. Please be aware that some food items used may have been produced in the same factory containing these products. HOWEVER GLUTEN WHEAT AND BARLEY IS USED during messy play! Any other food products that your child is allergic to please contact me prior to booking your session!
What age can my child start messy play? A child can come when you believe your child is ready to start weaning this is normally 6 months of age however, if they are sitting up well and have started their weaning journey, then younger babies are welcome. My messy play is designed from ages 6 months to 5 years old however older children and siblings are always welcome!
I have a new born baby do I have to pay to bring them with my older paying child? No, children who are too young to experience the messy play are free to come.
Can I feed my child in class? Yes! of course ! Breast feeding is always welcomed in class and if you need to feed them after the class is over, you are welcome to stay for as long as you need to whilst Avril cleans up.
What does my child wear and what do I need to bring? Make sure your child is comfortable wearing something you don't mind getting messy in. This could be a long sleeved vest, leggings or even a swimsuit etc. Make sure they are wearing a nappy but socks off to get the full sensory experience! You may need to make sure you, the adult, wear something you don't mind getting messy in too! Please bring a towel, spare clothes, nappies, a flannel, and plenty of wet wipes and a plastic bag to put the messy clothes in.
Do you provide anything for my child to wash with if they get really messy? Yes! Avril provides a warm bowl of water with sensitive PH balanced body wash in at the end of each class. Some clean flannels are provided but there may not be enough for everyone so please bring a flannel with you. A calming bubble song with bubbles is sung to relax your child during bath time.
We cant make the session that we booked what do I do? Due to having to purchase items beforehand, plan and make resources, Avril cannot offer a refund.
How many children can I book for the birthday party? The birthday party is planned for 14 children. If you would like to add more children than an additional £12 per head is added.
Is it ok to have children come to the party is they are over 5 years old? Yes! Many children over the age of 5 enjoy the messy play set ups and will love getting involved and playing with their younger friends and siblings.
Will the older children be included in the overall birthday party price? Yes. The party is designed from ages 6 months to 5 years but of course, the birthday party boy or girl will have older friends and family that will want to join in too and this will be included. However please contact me first with a number of children and ages and we can discuss a suitable price.
Which themes are available to choose for birthdays parties? There are many themes to choose from including; farmyard, safari, zoo, under the sea, mini beasts, dinosaurs, vehicles, forest animals and many more! If you have your own specific theme in mind then not a problem, just contact Avril to discuss it further.
Where are the birthday parties held? Birthday parties are currently held at Adwick Methodist Church hall. This is a big hall that is great for use for messy play but also to host your party guests with food and games. There is a kitchen available if you need to use it, toilet facilities including baby changing and disabled access. If you would like Avril to host a party at another venue then again, please contact for more information as additional fees may apply.
Hi! My name is Avril, I have a background of working within the early years sector, 18 years of childcare and educational experience and now, having two young children myself, would like to put all my knowledge and expertise into messy play classes.
Benefits of playing with 'mess' Each month is a new theme and is planned to support your child's development whether that be physically, using hands and tools to assist with fine motors, or through increasing communication and language, as your child listens and learns new words and vocabulary during their play. Buzz and Roar understands that Each child is different and develops at a different pace which is why various tactile resources are presented in a way to invite children to explore it at their own leisure. The set ups are placed at various levels to encourage babies and children to immerse themselves with play whilst encouraging strengthening muscles. Babies may be encouraged to lay on their tummies to strengthen neck and head control, older babies and children may want to sit up for back support and balance, and may even want to kneel at a tray or stand at the tables which supports muscles in their shoulders, arms, hands and wrists.
Messy play allows children to understand the world around them. It is very beneficial for babies when beginning their weaning journey. This is because babies are naturally inquisitive and use their hands and mouths to feel things before them. Messy play uses many different textures to assist with this innate exploration so that they can become used to the idea that not everything feels the same and in fact, substances can vary from slimy, bumpy, wet, dry, cold, and crunchy etc. Every play set up is carefully planned to stimulate all 5 senses of sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. For example, in the minibeast themed play it looks like mud, feels smooth to touch, smells like cinnamon, tastes like cocoa, and sounds like soft snow being walked on when a toy bug is pressed into it. So much to learn and enjoy at Buzz and Roar and so much to mess with, play and explore!
What to expect on the day Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the door to begin the signing in process, including if you wish your child to have their picture taken or not and a brief safety guidelines talk. Once you have found a space, you can begin to get your child ready for the fun! Ideally, you will already have them in clothes that you don't mind getting a bit messy! Socks off to get the full tactile experience but it is up to you what clothing you want to keep on. First Avril invites everyone to sit on the green mats to briefly talk through the safety of the play and then introduces each tray. This is a nice way for children and parents to feel relaxed and comfortable within a new environment. You are then free to choose a small world set up and explore. Please feel free to move around at any point during the time. There are many messy play set ups to explore so please do! The class will come to a pleasant end with a shower of bubbles. Avril provides flannels and bowls of warm water, with Ph balanced body wash for sensitive skin, ready for your child to wash in during this time. Don't forget to bring extra wet wipes, a towel, clean clothes and a bag to pop the messy wet clothes in. Once you are all changed and ready, feel free to take a look at some of the sensory items that are available to purchase and don't forget to book the next session with us which will be a different theme the next time you visit! We look forward to seeing your buzzing bees and roaring lions!!
Food Allergies: We are dairy, soy and egg free. Please be aware that most sources contain gluten and wheat and will be used during majority of sessions. Nuts are avoided with edible play however products may be made in the same factory as nuts and therefore I cannot guarantee completely nut-free. Any other allergies that you are concerened about please don't hesitate to contact Avril prior to a session so that it can be avoided in the play.
